Train Ticket Booking | Image Resource: youngisthan.in I was born and brought up in a Malayali family. But because of the transferable nature of my father’s job, I was brought up across different parts of the country. But my interest to know more about my home state makes me look for opportunities to come here whenever I am free. Last winter, I travelled from Mumbai to Kochi on such a trip. My journey by the KCVL Garib Rath was a hassle free one. I spent my time noting down the beauty of the landscapes which I could view in course of the train journey. The train reached Kochi, the next day, during the late hours of evening. I stayed at a hotel located in Ernakulam, which is closely located to Kochi. It was well connected with some of the major locations around the city. Equipped with a wide range of facilities such as restaurant, car rental & airport shuttle service, ample parking space and free access to internet, the hotel had a lively ambience. I spent the remainder of the day watching a Hollywood film to get over my lethargy. Here are some of the major places that I visited which made my stay in the city worth remembering: - Bolgatty Palace Built by the Dutch who once ruled Kochi, it is perhaps the oldest existing Dutch palace outside the Netherlands. Built in 1744, it contains landscaped gardens surrounding it. I marveled at the architectural style of the palace which used to the home of the Governor. It was leased out to the British in 1909. Now converted into a heritage hotel resort, it used to be the seat of the British Resident of Kochi during British rule. Wonderla Amusement Park This amusement park was primarily created to offer a wide range of land and water based rides to children. I loved the Equinox 360 which offers a 360-degree view of the park and rotates axially. The Flash Tower transports riders to a height of 37 meters at break neck speed. It is best suited for people who enjoy riding giant wheels. Vypeen Island Vypeen is an island which forms an integral part of Kochi. It is well connected with other parts of the city by the Goshree Bridges. An ideal place to visit the breathtakingly beautiful backwaters of Kerala, it is home to some of the longest beaches of Kochi. The light houses which dot the landscape add to the charm of the island. Boating services to Fort Kochi are available from here. The online train ticket booking system made it easier for me to acquire my return tickets on time. I arrived at Mumbai with unique memories of the trip. The people in general were mild mannered and hospitable. The pictures which I took of the Bolgatty Palace and Vypeen Island still invoke happy memories in my heart about Kerala. I long to get back to my home state soon in the near future.
